Tattoos: Big Decisions

Many people are drawn to obtaining tattoos to express their individuality; many however,do not understand the scale of a commitment tattoos can be and this often leads to misinterpretations of the tattoo's original message . A tattoo reveals much about a persons life and it does so publicly to anyone who sees it. Often does the tattoo veer off the creator's intentional message and instead open him up to criticism for their mistakes. For example, located in a man's bicep was the tattoo of a heart with two banners under it. Each banner had a name etched inside of each of them. Lisa was listed in the first banner, while Karen was written in the second one. Interesting to note that Lisa's banner was crossed out with a diagonal line while Karen's banner had no prominent features. I can perhaps see the indication that he put this tattoo on his body to express his love for Karen. However, I believe that man has originally made this tattoo for the love of his old lover named Lisa. The fact that he crossed it out makes it questionable as to whether the breakup was due to a foolish mistake or perhaps something more negative particularly to the man's character. Tattoos often bring much attention to an individual; for the shiny colors and the intricate designs often break the monotony of the human skin. However, it also brings to light much personal history that often people never want to portray with their tattoos. In conclusion, tattoos are a work of art and it is due to this that many people will develop many different interpretations that veer off the original creators intentions whether it be positive or negative. So for anyone who considers getting a tattoo heed my advice, do your research and ask many people about what they think about your tattoo design choice before you permanently plaster it to your body. This world has many cynics and observers that rip on the mistakes people make such as myself.
